We are a culture shaped by the sea. As a peninsula, no community in Nova Scotia is more than 60 kilometres from saltwater. Many have risked their lives as mariners to secure employment and incomes in a number of fishing industries here, to provide for their families. Some may go out to sea for days or months, isolating them from their loved ones at home.

SOUTH SHORE - The 2025 fishing season started out with very good indications of a positive year ahead. The usual amount of rain was falling until the end of June. I, and those I fish with, were catching plenty of chain pickerel and bass...in the usual spots around the South Shore.
