ACHENBACH

In our sadness the family of Ernst Walter Karl Achenbach announce his passing at the age of 92 on July 24, 2024, at Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care, Lunenburg.

Born January 3, 1932 he was the son of Bruno and Ottilie Achenbach in Heidelberg, Germany, where he lived his youth.

Ernst studied Economics in Mannheim, Germany. He met and married Marjorie Walker and came to Canada in 1963. He studied and earned his BA and B.Ed. at Mount Allison University. He earned his MA at Dalhousie.

He and Marjorie had four children: Gudrun, Heidi (Rob), Karl (Pam) and Alex and six grandchildren,Wulf, Mary, Spencer, Hailey, Gwenyth, and Vivienne, and his loving dog Willow.

Ernst taught at Truro, Centre and Park View, retiring in 1994.

He and Marjorie had many trips to Germany together, with children, students and friends.

Ernst was predeceased by his parents, and is survived by his wife, children and grandchildren.

He loved his adopted home and wrote a book about Canada, but Heidelberg was always in his heart.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Lunenburg and from where there will be a short service followed by a reception for family and friends on Friday, August 9, 6 to 8 p.m.
