It is with great sadness that the family of Robert Miller Black, 80, of Lunenburg announce his passing on Wednesday, November. 12, 2025 at Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg.


Born in Lunenburg on September. 11, 1945, he was a son of George and Flora (Miller) Black.

Robert attended the Lunenburg Academy. He started his working career at Stedman’s Store in Bridgewater then went on to work at the Lunenburg Foundry and Engineering Ltd. where he worked as an accountant for 31 years. Later he worked at I.C.T. in Halifax until his retirement in 2009.


Robert loved the community of Lunenburg and was part of many of its organizations and helped where he could. He was involved with the Lunenburg Craft Festival, the Lunenburg and District Swimming Pool, the Academy Foundation, Oktoberfest, and the Queen of the Sea Pageants. He enjoyed being a volunteer and was nominated “Volunteer of the Year” and received the WAYS award for his service.


Robert was a faithful member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church where he served as treasurer for many years. He also served on the Board of Managers and the Session.


He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shirley; sons, Stephen (Pam), Hammonds Plains, Richard, Lunenburg; grandchildren, Robyn, Samantha, Rachel, Chloe, and Meredith; sister-in-law, Mary Black, Bridgewater; nieces, Catherine (Spencer) Hubbards, Lufkin, Texas, Shelley (Barry) Brownson, Edmonton; great nephews, Morgan and Cameron Hubbards, Lufkin, Texas and great-niece, Emma Hubbards, Lufkin, Texas and several cousins.


Besides his parents, Robert is predeceased by his stepmother, Jean Black and brother, George.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy 3, Lunenburg.  A service to celebrate Robert’s life was held on Wednesday, November. 19 at 11:00 am. Interment in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg.
