BOUTILIER

Fred Leo Boutilier age 93 of East River Point passed away peacefully February 13th, 2026 at the South Shore Regional Hospital surrounded by his family.


Born in Blandford to Glen Boutilier and Blanche (Gates) Boutilier on December 19th 1932 he was the second of five children.


In his teens Dad started working in the Valley picking apples, then worked on the railroad for a year before getting a job with Karlsen Shipping where he worked for about 17 years, much of the time on the MV Theron hunting seals off the coast of Newfoundland and transporting cargo between Halifax and the West Indies. He was proud to have been a crew member when the Theron was chartered as the supply/transport ship for the 1957/58 British Trans-Antarctic expedition.


In 1959 he met and married Phyllis Lillian Cooke and they built their forever home in East River Point. Dad left the Theron in 1969 and then worked at the Anil Hardboard Plant until his retirement at age 64.


Dad loved spending time in the woods, cutting firewood and building his camp in Aspotogan. He also loved being on the water fishing or in the water swimming.


He was predeceased by his parents, wife, sister Shirley Ryan, brothers Avery and Willis. He is survived by a sister Jewell Malacrida and children Neil and Cheryl (Schnare), grandchildren Richard , Anthony, Benjamin, and Michaela; great-grand children Logan and Adelai.


The family wishes to take this opportunity to express their gratefulness to the staff at the South Shore Regional hospital, the VON and the Home Care staff for looking after Dad for the past several months.


Cremation has taken place and a graveside service for Dad and Mom will take place in the Spring.
