Judith Irene
May 28, 2024

Age 78, of Lunenburg. Judy passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on May 28th at Harbourview Haven Nursing Home, in Lunenburg, after a long courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. Judy was a fun, loving person and willing to help all who needed her. She was a loving Mom to Janet and James, and loving grandmother to Michaela and Zachary. In her younger days, Judy was a bank teller with the Royal Bank in Lunenburg where she met her husband, John. Then after moving to Bridgewater, she did various jobs such as phone operator, and managing the family cab company, Brake’s Cab. She and John were always up for any adventure; trips South with friends, home to Newfoundland to see family, day trips with the grandchildren, and two trips across Canada when they lived in Alberta. In retirement years, many weekends were spent doing yard sales and having flea markets. She loved playing cards, being with people, bingo, and loved her music. Judy was born in Dawson Memorial Hospital on July 12, 1945, to Leaman James Corkum and Hazel Maude (Mason). Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband John, and son-in-law Andrew. She leaves to mourn her daughter Janet Whynot, Camperdown; son James (John), Port Moody, BC; grandchildren Michaela (Ben), Conquerall Mills, and Zachary, Camperdown; brother Lawrence (Bettyanne), Lunenburg; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the amazing staff of Harbourview Haven where Judy resided for the past five years for their exceptional care and love of Mom. Memorial donations can be made to Harbourview Haven Nursing Home, Lunenburg, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or to the Alzheimer's Society of Nova Scotia. A memorial service for Judy was held 11 a.m., Monday, June 3, in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 35 York Street, Bridgewater. Arrangements entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater, where online condolences can be left at www.sweenysfuneralhome.com.
