John Miller
December 4, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John Miller Byrne, 82, after a brief illness in Lady Lake, Florida. He was the son of the late Marjorie Miller Byrne, Pentz, NS, Canada, and John f. Byrne (unknown as he was buried in Annapolis, Maryland, USA). He is survived by his cousin John McKee, who resides in Halifax, NS.
John served in the American Coast Guard and Merchant Marine. He spent most of his younger years in Heidelberg, Germany, as his dad was stationed there working with Army Military Intelligence. He was a member of the American Legion in Montpellier, Vermont some years back. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 24, Bridgewater, NS, Canada, for the last 25 years. He was a member of the LaHave River Yacht Club, Pentz, NS, for the past 25 years.
John enjoyed doing oil paintings of the ships he was on during his career. Loved to travel. In later years, he spent time at his home in Pentz, NS in the summertime, and wintertime was spent in Lady Lake, Florida.
John is fondly remembered by his friends, Karen Lyons, Shirley Mokler from Bridgewater, NS, Canada, and especially by his long-time friend of 67 years, Tom Howard, Montpellier, Vermont. He will be missed by the friends he made at the Links Golf Course in Summerfield, as well as the friends he made at Chili’s restaurant, Lady Lake, Florida.
John’s ashes will be brought back from the states, and will be buried alongside his mother’s grave at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Pentz, NS.
