October 29, 2024

CORKUM

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Maurice “Ivan” Corkum,

96, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at South Shore Regional Hospital,

Bridgewater. He will be greatly missed.

Ivan was born in Bayport, the eldest son of Morris and Maud (Greene) Corkum.

He attended school in Bayport in a one room schoolhouse. He then attended Dartmouth

Vocational, graduating with a diploma in Diesel Mechanics. In his early career, Ivan

spent several years as assistant Lighthouse Keeper at Battery Point and then as

Engineer on the M/V Harengus stationed at St. Andrew’s, N.B. Ivan retired as Diesel

Supervisor after 23 years at Fisheries Products International.

Ivan spent many wonderful summers at his cottage on Mush-a-Mush Lake with family

and friends. He especially enjoyed taking his grandson Josh water skiing as well as the

boys from Faith Baptist Church and any other friends visiting the lake. Ivan was a

faithful and dedicated member of Sherbrooke Lake United Church Camp where for

many years, he volunteered his time on the property committee and offered his valued

wisdom at meetings. Carving duck decoys in his back shed was a hobby dear to his

heart. He went duck hunting in his earlier years and then later deer hunting.

For many years Ivan was a member of the Lunenburg Curling Club where he enjoyed

his friendships and volunteering at the Club. He was also a member of First South

United Church where he was Clerk of Session for 22 years and leader of the Tyros. He

very much enjoyed being a member of the Men’s Choir. Later he became a member of

Central United Church, Lunenburg.

Ivan is survived by his loving wife of over 70 years, Armenia; son, Scott (Bonnie);

grandson, Josh (Lindsey) and great grandson’s, Ben and Sam; sister-in-law, Barbara

Gerhardt and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brothers, John and Richard.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home,

11213, Hwy 3, Lunenburg. A service to celebrate Ivan’s life will be held at Central

United Church, Lunenburg on Wednesday, November 13 at 2:00 pm, Rev. Daniel

MacDonald officiating. Interment will be in First South Cemetery, First South.

Memorial donations may be made to First South United Church, Central United Church
