CREASER

July 17, 1930 - August 11, 2026

Our dear mother, Joyce, passed away peacefully with family in her Chester home on August 11, 2026 having just turned 96 in July. She was born in Thorburn, NS in 1930 from very hardy Scottish stock and lived there with her grandparents, Anna & Harry Cameron in her early childhood. She then moved to Lunenburg with her parents, Alvera Sophia (Cameron) & Harry Stuart Fulton of Truro, when her father, a pharmacist, started Fulton’s Pharmacy in the town. Mom worked in the drug store through much of her teen years, being well known for her warm greetings at the soda counter and her creative window displays.

Mom attended Lunenburg Academy until Grade 9, then Edgehill School for Girls for Grades 10 & 11, returning to graduate from the Academy. When attending Edgehill she played basketball and excelled at field hockey, while also being an active swimmer and skater. Edgehill awarded her with the Houston prize in 1947 for “the girl that best exemplified womanly virtues”. A true lady she was. In the late 1940’s she was runner-up in the Queen of the Sea pageant during Lunenburg’s Fisheries Exhibition. She loved her animals as a child - various ducks and rabbits and especially her dog Buster.

In 1951 mom married Frederick John Creaser of Riverport and they went on to have 6 children. She kept us busy in dance, figure skating, hockey, skiing, boating, horseback riding, tennis, swimming, camping and gardening. She was forever sewing costumes for performances and Halloween. To this day we all love a great costume. Lol

Through her years she taught skating, took tap dancing, was a curler & golfer, became a Bridge Master (it was a rare night that she did not come home with a prize), car enthusiast (sports cars were a thing) and in later years she took up painting. Mom instilled a sense of giving to any community that you joined. She volunteered at the Bonny Lea Farm’s Lobster suppers, NS Rehabilitation Centre, Aspotogan Arts Centre, Friends of the Citadel, and St John’s Anglican Church Chancel Guild, and one of her proudest moments was bringing the RCMP Musical Ride to Chester. One gift she passed along to all of us was a sense of design and renovation which all six of us have carried on in one form or another, along with a rather nomadic lifestyle as we took on various projects.

“Mumsie” as we’ve come to call her of late, had a real joie de vivre for life, joining her many friends & family in social gatherings over the decades. Hard working in everything she approached puts it mildly. She weeded, we weeded. She raked, we raked. And so on. The number of turkey, lobster & salmon feasts for countless people who were ever showing up was beyond measure. Apple pies, chocolate chip cookies, lemon loaves, brownies, apple dumplings, Kim cookies, and certainly a million pancakes were always rolling out of the kitchen. All of this was done with her sense of current fashion intact, typically dressed to the nines.

Mom is survived by her six children - Faune Creaser (Alex Astbury), Stewart Creaser (Lorraine Vassalo), Susan Creaser (Warren Steele), George Creaser (Karn Nichols), Janet Creaser-Burgess and Jonathan Creaser (Jenna Creaser), various nieces & nephews, ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Fred, her parents, Harry & Vera Fulton, grandparents Anna & Harry Cameron and Eva & Hiram Fulton, her brother Cyril Edgar Fulton, her aunts Irene Abigail (Cameron) Christensen & Helen (Fulton) Ripley, as well as a dear uncle, Giles Grant Cameron. Mom raised us with a myriad of horses, birds, goldfish, hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, cats (Siamese being her fave) and dogs. She expressly wished a special mention of her last dog Ruby, a faithful flat-coated retriever.

There will not be a visitation. Burial with family only will be in Thorburn. There will, however, be a very Joyce-like celebration of life announced at a later date.
