ERNST

91, of Bridgewater, Nova Scotia passed away at Rosedale Home for Special Care in New Germany on November 2, 2025.

Born in Bridgewater, he was the eldest son of the late Donald and Beatrice (Fancy) Ernst. He is survived by his daughter Tammy (Ernst) Bentley; daughter and son-in-law Wanda (Ernst) Murison and David Murison; sister Marjorie (Ernst) Rode, and her children Greg Matz and his wife Kendall, Cheryl (Matz) Bowden and her husband Steve, and Carole (Matz) Booth; brother Charles Ernst, and his children Andrew Ernst and his wife Davonna, and Kristen (Ernst) Peace and her husband Michael; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Patsy (Veinot) and Granville Grace, and their daughter, son-in-law, and grandson Michelle (Grace), Ricky, and Tyler Knickle. He was predeceased by his wife Betty (Veinot) Ernst, his daughter Michelle Ernst, brother-in-law Robert Rode, and sister-in-law Ruth (Manthorne) Ernst.

Donnie was a devoted husband and father who was known at work for both his strong work ethic and sense of humour. He was a life-long member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, and in his free time, he enjoyed sitting and looking out the window or listening to fiddle music, pastimes that he continued to enjoy at Rosedale. His love of Tim Hortons and McDonalds' coffee was well known, dropping by for his morning (and often afternoon) “double double” throughout his retirement years.

Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held at Brookside Cemetery on Friday, November 14th at 11 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to Rosedale Home for Special Care in New Germany, St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bridgewater, or a charity of your choice.
