Florence "Betty"

Betty was born December 18, 1944, in Caplin Cove, Conception Bay, Newfoundland, to Walter George and Marjorie Irene (Reynolds) Bursey. Betty grew up in Lower Island Cove, Conception Bay and completed high school in Carbonear, Conception Bay. Betty graduated from the General Hospital School of Nursing in St. John’s, Newfoundland. In December 1965, Betty went on a blind date and met the love of her life and best friend, Howard E. W. Frost, and they married December 29, 1967, in Lower Island Cove, Conception Bay. They honeymooned in Jamaica and when Betty moved to Labrador City, she worked in the local hospital as a nurse until they started a family. Betty enjoyed the Northern life and raising her family for the next twenty-two years. She was involved with all the children’s activities including cross country skiing and snowmobiling. She also taught Sunday School in Carol United Church. Betty retired with her husband Howard in 1989 to live in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, where she became a member of the Bridgewater United Church. Betty enjoyed spending time with her children, 4 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. Betty and Howard traveled together whenever they could. Betty’s specialty was gardening, walking, and especially looking after her family. Betty is survived by her loving husband, Howard; sons, Howard Todd (Paula Williams) Frost, Labrador City, Newfoundland; Terry George (Lisa) Frost, Conquerall Bank; grandchildren, Tyler, Cold Lake, Alberta; Kailee and her daughter, Reina, Bridgewater; Dylan; Shania (Fred) Paris and their children, Hannah, Axel, Carter, Gage, and Ayla, Cold Lake, Alberta; sisters, Wanda, Toronto, Ontario; Bonnie (James) Mittle; Romeo, Michigan, United States; brothers, Bruce (Betty) Bursey, Toronto, Ontario; Winston (Liz) Bursey, Bay Roberts, Newfoundland; Allan Bursey, Cobourg, Ontario; Randy (Monica) Bursey, Toronto, Ontario. Betty was predeceased by infant son, William Frost; brother, Daniel Bursey; sister, Daphne Bernice Avery; sister-in-law, Louise (Allan) Bursey; mother, Marjorie Irene Bursey, and father, Walter George Bursey. By request, there will be no visitation or church service. Cremation has taken place and a private committal service for family only will be held at Brookside Memorial Cemetery Columbarium in Bridgewater. Donations in Betty’s memory may be made to the Bridgewater United Church Memorial Fund or a charity of choice.
