It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John “Jack” Walter Galley, age 94, of Conquerall Bank, formerly of Aldershot, on January 9, 2026, at the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. He was a son of the late Walter and Alice (Landry) Galley. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family of nine siblings.

Jack was a member of the Freemasons of N.S. from 1972, until his passing. He was an over 50-year member of the Royal Canadian Legion where he held several positions over the years. He was a Master Guide and for a number of years, together with his wife, operated a hunting and fishing business catering to U.S. sportsmen. He was co-owner and operator of South Shore Well Drilling. One time to find work, he went to Ontario to work at the Ford plant; he worked for Bens Bread Ltd. for 13 years, becoming supervisor and worked for Canada Post for a period of time. He was an avid sportsman and no matter what sport he played, he played to win and he had a special place in his garage for his over 50 trophies.

He enjoyed anything to do with the outdoors, being in his boat mackerel fishing, camping, hunting, 4-wheeling with family and friends, and especially spending 17 winter seasons in Florida where he definitely enjoyed the warm weather. While in Florida, he mastered the art of shuffleboard and won several trophies. Jack had a great sense of humor and loved to tell jokes; some we heard many times over but always made us smile. He was a hard worker from teenager to retirement. As a young teenager to earn spending money, he took a job after school and on weekends at a pool hall. It was there in his spare time that he mastered his game, and all his life was very competitive in all sports.

Jack is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, of over 40 years; his daughter Wendy, sons, Gary (Pearl), Blair (Judy), Anthony (Carla); daughter-in-law, Gladys (wife of late son, David Galley); grandchildren, Alan (Tara), Karen (Alan), Jack (Tara), Mark (Sarah), Angela (Justin), Jennifer (Lucas); and 15 great-grand children. Stepfamilies, Richard (Jackie), Darryl (Kathleen), Karen (wife of late stepson, Randy Crowell); step-granddaughters, Rachel Crowell and Amelia (Bryan) Trochim; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was a loving devoted husband and he enjoyed having family and friends visit their home, and always welcomed them with a smile.

In accordance with Jacks wishes, there will be no public Memorial Service. Cremation has taken place and a Private Family Burial and Celebration of Life for Jack will be announced at a later date. Memorial donations are encouraged to Shriners Children’s Organization, Canadian Cancer Society, or charity of choice.

The family would like to thank the staff and team of nurses at the South Shore Regional Hospital for their compassionate care of Jack while he was in the hospital, and a special Thank-You to Dr. Chaisson for her support, guidance, comfort and care.
