GREEK

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Rita Florence Greek better known to us all as “Peggy” at Shoreham Village Chester, N.S. Peggy left us quietly to join the love of her life Douglas, who passed away May, 2024 after 61 years of marriage and devotion to each other.

Peggy was born and raised in Stonehurst, Lunenburg County attending a one room schoolhouse during her school years. She then moved to Lunenburg where her working career included phone operator with Maritime Tel & Tel, clerk at the Lunenburg Eaton’s order office and finally office receptionist with Dr. Reg. Saunders until retirement.

Peggy served her church with devotion as a Sunday School Teacher, member of the U.C.W. and as a Central United Elder. She served her community through volunteerism and was always there to lend a helping hand as a member of the Lunenburg Fire Department Auxiliary, Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital Auxiliary & Gift Shoppe, Meals on Wheels and more.
Peggy loved to travel, visiting various locations in Europe. Alaska, Caribbean, Newfoundland & areas within the United States during their GO-GO years. A particular highlight was attending the Passion Play while in Europe. Peggy also loved decorating, baking and cooking with a particular talent for knowing just what extra ingredient was required for the perfect flavour.

Peggy loved  being surrounded by family and friends, always enjoying a good laugh and especially cherished time spent with nieces and nephews.

In addition to husband Douglas, Peggy is predeceased by parents Elva and Mack Tanner and survived by brothers, Philip (Sheila) Tanner, Western Shore, Newman Tanner, Stonehurst , many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A special thank you to the kind & caring staff at Shoreham Village Chester who went out of their way to make Peggy feel comfortable, recognized and part of her new community.
