GREER

September 29, 1951 – August 12, 2026

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved youngest sister after a brief but sudden and intense illness. She was the daughter of the late Stewart and Carrie (Conrad) Greer of Lower Branch, Lunenburg co. She was born in Branch LaHave in her grandparent’s house. Her grandmother, Millie Conrad, was a midwife. Dr. Bennet came for the delivery with his black kit bag, and her oldest sister thought Dr. Bennet had brought Janice in the bag!

Janice is survived by her sisters, Marlene Greer and Brenda (Greer) Englehutt of Lower Branch. In addition to her parents, Janice was predeceased by her grandparents Barney and Millie Conrad, and John and Rachel Greer; as well as brother-in-law John Englehutt.

Janice graduated from the Lunenburg Regional Vocational School with a course in stenography in June 1971. For the next 40 years she was executive secretary with family and children’s services in Bridgewater.

She was known as the “chocolate lady”, who always had a stash in her desk drawer, which she gladly shared with others. Recently, she would tell everyone she loved gumdrops and admitted she liked them more than chocolate! Her favourite colours were yellow and purple. She also loved owls and had quite a collection of them.

Janice was always happy and thankful, and was very unlikely to say anything unkind to anyone. In her earlier days, she enjoyed being outside doing yardwork. She also liked to sing hymns being a lady of faith. In her later days, she enjoyed doing word searches.

Visitation was held 6 – 8 p.m., Tuesday, August 18, 2026, in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral Service was held 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Following the service, a reception was held at the funeral home. Burial was held in Hillside Cemetery, Branch LaHave. Family flowers would be greatly appreciated, but no lilies please! Donations in Janice’s memory can be made to Hillside Cemetery, South Shore Regional Hospital, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

We wish to thank all those who attended the visitation and/or funeral service for Janice. Thanks also to Lunenburg County Home Support; for the prompt response time and care of the attending paramedics; for the empathy of the Emergency Department of the South Shore Regional Hospital; to the organist, the ministers, and pallbearers; and for all donations in her memory.
