Arnold is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Carolyn (née Dorey) Knickle. He
was the loving father of Kevin (Patricia) Haines, Colleen Haines (Robert Maisonneuve),
and Andrea Haines (Bruce Falkenham), and stepfather to Kathryn (Dave) White, Cynthia (David) Mitchell, and Leah (Scott McLean) Knickle. A dear “Grampy,” Arnold will be
fondly remembered by his grandchildren Jenniffer (Darien) Geldart, Jonathan Haines, Aaron French, Candi (Patrick Lunn) Falkenham, and Ashton (Brian Goodick) Falkenham;
and as a step-grandfather to Jamie (Tess) White, Aimee Conrad, Ian (Soleil) Mitchell, Lisa (Mike) Kendall, Alexander McLean, and Alicia McLean. He also leaves behind five great-grandchildren, eight step-great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and four step-great-greatgrandchildren.
Born in Martin’s Brook, Arnold began his education in a one-room schoolhouse before attending Lunenburg Academy and Kingston Bible College and Academy. He worked as a machinist in the Halifax Dockyard and was skilled in television repair. Arnold built his first home in Timberlea
where he lived with his first wife Helen and mother of his children. Later he would build other homes and apartment buildings in Timberlea and Lower Sackville, sharing his passion
for construction with his good friend Glen Knickle.
Arnold had many interests, including music—he enjoyed playing the guitar, mandolin, and autoharp—and he was an active participant in the GYRO club and an Investment Club. He also enjoyed computer programming, bowling, dancing, gardening, boating, and country music. Later in life, Arnold met Carolyn, and they married on June 25, 1999, celebrating
their 25th anniversary this year.
A true lover of travel, Arnold enjoyed eight wonderful winters in his Florida home with Carolyn, surrounded by good friends. In his community, he served as Chairman and Director of the Long Cove Summer Cottage Society, helping to modernize their area with road improvements and
high-speed internet. He also chaired the Martin’s River and Area Fire Commission for several years. Arnold will be remembered for his kindness, willingness to help others, and infectious smile.
A graveside service was held on October. 12, 2024, at the St. Martin’s cemetery with a reception following at the Martin’s River Volunteer Fire Hall.
