HALL, Edith Louise – Age 94, of Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. Passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025, at Ridgewood Assisted Living. Cremation has taken place.
Edith was born in Cookville, NS, at home, to Gordon and Idella (Wentzell) Cook. She graduated high school in Bridgewater and went on to become a Registered nurse. She attended the Yarmouth School of Nursing and graduated in 1953.
Edith is survived by her brother, Everette Cook, Bridgewater; children, Patricia Dexter, Milton, Pamela (Peter) Cormillot, Summerland, BC and Peter Hall, Bridgewater; her four grandchildren, Matthew Dexter, Mill Village, Graham Dexter, Halifax, Sophie and Silvie Cormilllot, Summerland, BC; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Chloe Dexter, Piper Dexter and Fox Dexter. Also extended family, loved ones near and far. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Vinton Hall; and her son-in-law, Stephen Michael Dexter.
Edith practiced her career as an RN until after she married, in 1956. When family happened, she devoted herself to being a full-time mother to her three children. Edith will be remembered for the many roles she had in her lifetime. Growing up, our family would visit the family farm in Cookville, we visited every Sunday morning after church and have many fond memories of that time. She was an active volunteer to the Anglican Church Women, Red Cross Society, Dawson Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Bridgewater Food Bank.
At any time growing up, Wally had one of three cape island boats. We all loved deep sea fishing on the weekend. All except Pam. We ate a lot of fish. As a grandmother, she loved taking her grandchildren to the duck pond across the street, to feed the ducks and go for forest walks. They all remember riding their bicycles in the driveway.
Edith was very active physically. Friends and neighbours would see her every evening, walking her four-mile route. She enjoyed gym classes and social time with her many friends. Her favourite ice cream was rum and raisin. She loved to play crib games with her husband, Wally, whose nickname for her was “Sally”, and then later, her friends at Ridgewood.
A Memorial Service for Edith will be held at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 78 Alexandra Ave., Bridgewater, on Friday, August 15, 2025, 11:00 AM, with Rev. Fran Boutilier officiating. A private interment will be held at Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. There will be no visitation and no flowers by request. Memorial donations may be made to the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, the South Shore Regional Hospital, Canadian Cancer Society, or any organization of your choice. Memorial arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater, where online messages of condolences may be made by visiting www.sweenysfuneralhome.com.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Ridgewood Assisted Living, Bridgewater, her honorary granddaughter, Martha Labour, of Ridgewood, the VON, Canadian Red Cross, and many more caring individuals that touched her life at some point over her remarkable ninety-four years on earth.
