JONES (Fralick)
Betty Jacqueline
August 1, 2024

Betty Jacqueline (Fralick) Jones, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away in Lunenburg on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at the age of 85.
Betty was born in Lunenburg. She was the youngest of three girls born to Ainsley and Mary Fralick of Cross Island and Stonehurst. Her early life in Lunenburg was full of adventure. When she wasn’t climbing those steep hills to attend class at the Lunenburg Academy, she was teaching swimming at the “Saw Pit” in the back harbour, or caddying at the golf course on the front harbour.
Betty had a twinkle in her eye, loved a good laugh and could always see the best in people or the humour in a situation. These anecdotes of life were the basis of her infectious storytelling and she loved to recount tales of her adventures, friendships, family lore or the characters she encountered in her walk through life.
She was adventurous, athletic and loved the outdoors. Winter or summer she was active – canoe trips to Algonquin Park, cross country skiing in Rothesay, and hiking in Gros Morne. She was always with good friends and usually accompanied by one of her beloved rescue dogs.
Betty raised her two daughters in Rothesay. Those happy years were pivotal in her life and it was here where she made lifelong friendships. Her favourite spot in the world was on Long Reach sitting on the deck at Caton’s view with her dear friend Stitter.
She was proud of her early career as a Radiology Technician. In later years, she returned to university to study accounting. She had a strong work ethic and successfully ran her own accounting business for many years between Ottawa, Rothesay and Lunenburg.
Betty was kind and generous. She gave freely of her time and expertise to the various charities with which she was involved (Board Member Interval House Ottawa, Food Banks in New Brunswick and Newfoundland, and the United Churches in Blue Rocks and LaHave). She loved people and they loved her back.
While living in Ottawa, she met a kindred spirit in Lorna Godin who quickly became her life companion. Together they had many adventures first in Ontario and finally in Lunenburg.
Betty was predeceased by her husband Ronald Jones and sister Hazel (Fraelic).
She is survived by her companion Lorna Godin, sister Joan, daughters Gwyneth (John) Mackay, Margaret Jones, grandchildren Alex, Will, Colin and Corey, and great-grandchild Cody.
At Betty’s request there will not be a service or visitation. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to your local women’s shelter or Elder Dog Canada. www.sweenyfuneralhome.ca
