LANTZ (CROUSE)

Melba Lantz, of Crouses Settlement, Lunenburg County, passed away peacefully at SSRH on September 25, 2024. Born in Bridgewater on October 8, 1940, she was the youngest daughter of Perry and Jean (Naugler) Crouse.


Survived by daughter, Sheri (John) Collyer and son, Daron (Karen) Lantz; granddaughters Kyrsten Collyer (Jason Poirier) of Hammonds Plains; Brittany and Stephanie Lantz (Zee States), Dartmouth; Step Grandsons Patrick and Dylan Rhyno; great grandchildren, Sadie and Arden Poirier; sister, Janet (Frank) Williamson of Lindsay, Ontario; brother-in-law, Stephen Lantz (Betty Kiteley) of Halifax; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and her much loved cat, Tandy.

Beside her parents, Melba was predeceased by her husband, Earl, sister, Paula and brother-in-law, Melville (Mel) Nix.


Family meant everything to mom. She gave of her time to her family. She cared for her mother-in-law, sister, parents, Aunt Lois and Uncle Milton Bush and her husband until they passed. Mom was also the author of “And Then A Settlement was Born”, the history of the Crouse family and Crouses Settlement. She was involved in her community as a Girl Guide Leader for a number of years; Administration Officer with the 865 Dartmouth Air Cadet Squadron for ten years; Kiwanis Bluenose Golden K Club for 18 years, including two terms as President; President of Senior Wheels Association (Now Lunenburg County Wheels) for nine years and a member and President for two terms of the Dayspring and District Golden K Youth Club. Melba maintained and cherished many strong and long-lasting friendships.


Mom wanted it said the care her children and their spouses gave her was truly appreciated. “From deep in my heart, Thank you for all you did for me.”


The family would like to extend sincere thanks to Erin and staff at Ashwood Lodge for being Mom’s home away from home for the past five months, to Lunenburg County Wheels for giving her some independence and to SSRH Emergency and 4th floor for taking such great care of our Mom.


Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Highway 3, Lunenburg. A memorial service was held on October 6, 2024, at 2 p.m. with interment at Middle LaHave Cemetery.
