MAUGHAN

Vernon Leon Maughan, 69, of Dayspring, died Saturday, July 6, 2024, in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, surrounded by family. He was born in Bridgewater on February 8, 1955, to Walter Maughan and Elsie (Veinot) Maughan.

Vernon is survived by his loving wife Monica (Rafuse), daughter Erin (Ryan), grandson Hunter; daughter Kim, granddaughters Savanna and Emily and great grandson Jake and “adopted” son Shawn; sisters Gail (Laurie); Anna (Jeff); nieces Rachel (Carl), Nicole (Darren), nephews Cory; Tyler (Michelle) and Colby, great nieces Carly and Abigail.

Vernon was predeceased by his father Walter, mother Elsie, brother Gordon, Uncle Earl and nephew Glen.

Vernon’s passion and love of all things with buckets and booms started at a young age and got serious when he and his father started their business, Maughan’s Construction, in 1974; it recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. A year later, in 1975, he married Monica and they started a family in 1980. Vernon and Erin’s Sunday morning breakfast rituals were spent at The Little Red Restaurant, The Turkey Burger, Irving Big Stop, or The Fairview Inn.

Many friendships were made over his lifetime, and business acquaintances shared many meals around the kitchen table, also known as the office in the business’s many years.

Vernon was well known for his ability to tell jokes like no other and stories you’ll never forget (and perhaps hear multiple times).

The later years were spent going to “jams” and kitchen parties, making more friends and leaving lasting impressions.

As Vernon would say, "Eyeball ya later".

Visitation will be held on July 16, 2024, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Oakhill and District Fire Department. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, July 19, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. at the same location,
