MCDOW
Harold Dean
June 28, 2024

It is with profound sadness that the family of Harold Dean McDow share the passing of their beloved father, grandfather, and life partner at the age of 82. Dad was surrounded by his loving family in his passing at South Shore Regional Hospital on June 28, 2024.
Dad was born July 29, 1941, in New Ross, to the parents of Frederick McDow and Kathleen Emeneau. Dad met the love of his life and late wife, Patricia Louise McDow (Sellars) from Chester Basin, where they would eventually settle to call home and raise their family.
Dad was a hard worker all his life as he picked tobacco in Ontario as a kid and worked in the woods around Seffernville and New Ross. He then moved to Saint John, New Brunswick with his wife Patricia, where he drove truck for Speedway. Upon their return to Nova Scotia, he sold hearing aids with his brother Lester. Dad would then go on to working in the insurance industry at J. Earle Morash Agencies Ltd. and later B.W. Armstrong Insurance before retiring.
Dad could often be found on weekends working in his Christmas trees or cutting wood on his land in Seffernville. He even partnered with his brother, Osbourne, to co-own Tree Top Tree Co. Ltd. where they sold and shipped containers of Christmas trees to Ontario for many years. Dad also enjoyed traveling with his family, including many road trips to Florida and across Canada, often camping along the way.
Dad was a long-time member of Chester Golf Club where he would share a round of golf with his children or his friends on a Friday night for Men’s Night. Dad was a member of Grace Anglican Church in Chester Basin, as well as a member of Clarke Lodge #61, the Scottish Rite, and Philae Shriners.
Dad’s loving spirit is carried on by his children, Dean McDow (Krista) and Sarah Swinamer (Chris), as well as his partner, Donna Covey. Dad leaves behind three granddaughters who he adored beyond measure, Rebecca and Katelyn McDow, and Hannah Swinamer.
Dad was preceded in love and peace by his late wife, Patrica, his parents, Frederick and Kathleen and his brothers Osbourne, Lester, and Wayne.
A service has been held at Grace Anglican Church in Chester Basin on Thursday, July 4, 2024. Memorial donations may be made to Grace Anglican Church, Chester Basin.
