MILLER, KC

David Miller, KC died on August 29, 2026, after a period of declining health. He was the son of Lorne and Agnes Miller of Kitchener, Ontario. He was admitted to the Bar in 1973 and became an associate, then partner with Stewart MacKeen & Covert (now Stewart McKelvey). He remained with that firm throughout his entire legal career.

His broad-ranging legal practice was conducted with an emphasis on commercial litigation, insurance litigation, and tort and personal injury litigation. He acted as counsel in some of the largest, most complex and lengthy civil litigation in the Province. He represented clients before all levels of Courts in Nova Scotia, the Federal Court of Canada, and the Supreme Court of Canada. He conducted a successful arbitration on behalf of a Nova Scotia corporation before the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission, PRC. He represented clients before administrative tribunals, acted as an arbitrator and sat as Boards of Inquiry under the Human Rights Act.

As a Director of the Chester Theatre, David was Chair of its first capital campaign and a member of the second capital campaign, and President during the extensive renovations and upgrading which followed. He also served on the Board of the Chester Municipal Heritage Society, and from 2013 through 2021, the Chester Art Centre.

During his time with Chester Art Centre, the Board undertook many significant projects including a highly successful “Canada 150” event. The Board’s biggest accomplishment was designing and undertaking a complete renovation of the existing building and a substantial addition.

Supporting the Chester Brass Band was important to David. He became an honorary member last year.

David loved all things train and travelled by train throughout Canada. He also loved model railroading. His passion for railways and trains has more recently been satisfied by joining the Board of the Middleton Railway Museum Society, acting as Secretary to the organization.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy 3, Lunenburg. At David’s request, there will be no formal service. Flowers gratefully declined.
