Selig
Thomas Wayne
December 7, 2025

Thomas Wayne Selig—known and loved by everyone as Tommy—passed away suddenly yet peacefully on December 7, early in the morning, surrounded by love after every effort was made to save him. He was 57 years old.
Born on April 11, 1968, in Tilsonburg, Ontario, Tommy carried a deep kindness and quiet strength throughout his life. Though his given name was Thomas Wayne Selig, he preferred Tommy—and that is how he will always be remembered by those who knew him best.
Tommy shared a beautiful life with his wife Liza, the love of his life. They were together from August 1994 and married in July 1999, building a home filled with devotion, care, and unwavering partnership. Tommy was a constant presence—steady, gentle, and deeply loving. He packed lunches, made coffee, prepared meals, walked the dogs, did the laundry, and always made sure his family was looked after. He had a rare gift for comforting those he loved, soothing anxiety with a calm word, holding a hand when fear crept in, or offering quiet reassurance when life felt heavy.
Nothing meant more to Tommy than being a father. He loved his children with every part of his being and was their biggest supporter and fiercest advocate. He found genuine joy in doing things for them—whether that meant being their human alarm clock at all hours, sitting with them during hospital visits, rescuing them from roadside breakdowns, or teaching life’s simple joys. Tommy taught his children how to ride bikes, hunt, fish, play cards, ski, and snowboard. He was their number one fan—always proud, always present.
He is survived by his children Joshua (home), Devan (home), and Dylan (Halifax), as well as Joshua’s girlfriend Jenna. Tommy was also a proud “chosen dad” to Cody Monk and Shayne Crouse, embracing them as his own.
Tommy is mourned by his mother Diane Selig (Halifax), his brother Jamie (Halifax), as well as his mother-in-law Carolyn Thomas (Midville Branch). He could never forget his “Boo” along with the rest of the Branch family. He is also lovingly remembered by his uncle Arnie, whom he FaceTimed every single day—a reflection of how deeply committed he was to staying connected with the people he loved. Tommy leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends including extended family in Ontario, all of whom are devastated by this sudden loss.
Tommy was predeceased by his father Wayne, and by his son Tristian, a loss that profoundly shaped him. He never fully recovered from Tristian’s passing, but even through his grief, he continued to give love generously and selflessly to others.
In his early years, Tommy worked as a trucker, a job he truly loved and took pride in as he provided for his family. After an injury left him unable to work, he found new purpose as an exceptional stay-at-home dad and husband, nurturing his family with dedication and grace.
A loyal friend to many, Tommy always made time for people. He listened without judgment and would do anything for anyone. His warmth lingered long after conversations ended.
Tommy also had a deep and unwavering faith in Jesus. He was not afraid of death, knowing with certainty that something better awaited him. His faith was lived outwardly—through love, service, and humility. He was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Halifax, where he once preached sermons and led church groups, leaving a lasting spiritual impact on those around him.
Even his faithful companions, Gunner and Echo, feel his absence and continue to look for him—a quiet testament to the love and routine he shared with them.
Tommy was an incredible husband, an extraordinary father, a devoted son and brother, a loyal friend, and a man of deep faith. He will be missed beyond measure by his children, his family, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Though our hearts are broken, we are grateful beyond words for the life we shared with him. His love, his steadiness, and his quiet strength will live on in each of us.
We the family of the late Tommy Selig, would like to take this time to thank, the paramedics, Bridgewater fire department, Dr. Harlow, Dr. Best, and their team at SSRH, for giving their all that morning to save Tommy. And a special thank you to Doctor Holly Zwicker for the years of compassionate, kind, care she has given to Tommy and his family. We would also like to thank, Uncle Gerald Whynot, Denise Peach, Coleen Kelley, and Kelli Venoit for being a presence in our home during this time, it means more then words can say. We also thank everyone who took the time to check in on us during this difficult time.
A service in celebration of Tommy’s life will be held at the Oak Hill Fire Hall, on Wednesday December 17th at 2:00pm. Uncle Art MacDonald has graciously offered to lead the celebration. Reception will follow the service until 4:00pm. We truly look forward to seeing everyone there.
