SILVER
Gloria Gertrude
November 12, 2024

Silver, Gloria Gertrude – Age 98 of Bridgewater, passed away Tuesday, November 12th, 2024 in Shoreham Village, Chester, with family by her side. Born May 23rd, 1926 in Pine Grove, Lunenburg County, she was the only daughter of the late Forman and Gertrude (Veinot) Garber. She was the oldest and last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are her daughters, Darlene Crouse (Andy); Verlene Silver-Corkum (Wally); sons David Silver (Diana Nowe); Vance Silver; grandchildren, Brock Crouse, Danica Findlay (Greg), Dylan Silver (Carly), Ryan Silver, Jonathan Silver (Tara), Kayla Silver (Seth Piercey); great-grandchildren, Jade; great-grandson, Jordan; numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Edgar in November 2017; brothers Vernon, Loren, Merlin and Wennis.
Gloria’s early years of work were at the former Fairview Hotel in Bridgewater. In 1950, Gloria married the love of her life, Edgar, and moved to their new home in Bridgewater, built by Edgar. Mom always enjoyed being a homemaker, caring for her family. For so many years the family enjoyed Mom’s home baked bread and sweets.
In the summers, Mom was kept busy canning or pickling fruit or vegetables from their gardens. At age 96, Mom was still living in her home using the original wood kitchen stove for heat and cooking her meals. She was always happiest using it, so why change to electric? Mom loved to save, not wanting to waste anything.
Over the years, Mom enjoyed family gathering, community suppers, attending church services at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran, where she was a member, reading the daily paper and the Bridgewater Bulletin. In the evenings she always watched CTV News, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.
At Shoreham Village she enjoyed going to their church services, playing bingo, bowling, attending musical events and birthday socials.
Gloria’s hard-working ethics, her strengths and her saving ways have been instilled in us and she will be greatly missed by her family.
