SKINNER

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Lloyd G. Skinner, age 84, on June 18, 2026 at the South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater, surrounded by the care and love of his family.

Lloyd was born in Yarmouth, N.S. on June 15, 1942, a son of the late R. Gordon and Myrtle (Pitman) Skinner.

The family moved to Dartmouth in 1951 where he grew up. There are many stories of those years, and so many more stories of time spent with his Pitman grandparents in Carlton, Yarmouth Co., the Skinner family home in Hebron and at their hunting camp. He loved his family more than anything else. Lloyd was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He was a kind and caring son and brother. He had several passions: trout fishing, camping and canoeing at Kejimkujik National Park, a good single malt Scotch, almost everything military and airplanes. He loved and appreciated music, from taking part in High School musicals, playing the Cornet in local bands, to playing the lead role of Peron when the Wind's of Change Theatre Group presented Evita. Lloyd's working life was in accounting and business management. He called himself a bean counter.  He worked in the Nova Scotia Department of Health, Bowater Mersey Paper Company Ltd., Brooklyn, N.S., Aerovox Corp. in Amherst N.S., Steel and Engine Products Ltd. in Liverpool, Shelburne Marine Ltd. and New World Dairy, formally Chaffey’s Dairy Farm in Maidstone N.L. In his youth he wanted to be a pilot. That was not to be. He was an Air Cadet, he was in the University Reserve and in the 133rd, 14th Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery (Militia). He could identify an airplane from great distances. He was a prolific reader, often having two or three books on the go at the same time. In his younger years he was a Kinsman, Youth leader, and a community minded citizen wherever he lived. He had a wonderful sense of humour and always saw the best in every situation. He was my IT go to guy, my Mr. Fix-it, my rock. He has gone fishing.  We are missing him and will forever.

Lloyd is survived by his wife, Karen Crouse; daughter Susan Skinner (Scott Young); son, Allen (Teri) Skinner; stepsons, Jeffrey (Lynn) Parks, Graham (Charlotte) Parks; sister, Carol McGregor; grandchildren, Alexander, Joel (Abby), Jordon (Valene) Haines, Meghan Skinner (Jace Organ) and seven great-grandchildren; step-grandchildren, Jillian (Mark MacKenzie) Parks, Jennifer (Amber) Falkenham, Liam and Lauren (Matt Drinovz) Parks, and two step-great-granddaughters. He is also survived by several nieces, grand nieces and cousins.

We would like to thank the staff in the Emergency Department and on the 4th floor of the South Shore Regional Hospital for the excellent care Lloyd received and for the concern shown to his family while he was there.

Arrangements are under the care of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy 3, Lunenburg. 

There will be no funeral service.

A celebration of life will be held at Branch #24 Royal Canadian Legion, Bridgewater on Saturday, July 11, 2026, from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the South Shore Regional Hospital Foundation, S.H.A.I.D. Tree Animal Shelter or Branch 24, Royal Canadian Legion, Bridgewater.
