It is with great sadness that the family of Charles Russell Teal, 90, of Broad Cove, Lunenburg Co., announces his passing on Thursday, August 27, 2026, in Ridgewood Assisted Living, Bridgewater, NS. Born March 16, 1936, in Broad Cove, he was a son of the late Russell and Belle (Boehner) Teal. Charles received his early education at the community school in Broad Cove. Upon leaving school, Charles moved to Dartmouth, where he secured a job at the IWK Children’s Hospital in Halifax. He was eventually hired by Canada Post at the Dartmouth Main Station, where he worked for 33 years as a letter carrier. Charles was also popular as the nightly caller at PM&J Bingo Hall in Dartmouth for many years. Charles retired from the postal service in 1995, and moved to the family home in Broad Cove. In his retirement, he worked on the construction of several homes in the community, including his own. Charles enjoyed sitting on his veranda overlooking the cove, laughing with friends and family. He was well-known for volunteering with community groups and events, and for hosting musical jam nights at his home, surrounded by friends and family singing and playing guitars. He was proud of having donated blood an amazing 75 times. He was presented with a certificate of appreciation from the provincial government for his volunteer efforts with the United Communities Fire Department, where he was known as an expert toast-butterer at community breakfasts! Charles was known and appreciated for his sense of humour, his generosity, and his welcoming personality. He was predeceased by brothers Lester, Roy, and tragically very recently, Billie. He is survived by sister Donna Davidson (Don Lamond), Truro; children Stephen, Broad Cove, Heather, Truro, and Andrew (Amber), Ladner, BC; grandchildren Scott (Jennifer), Bradley (Natalie MacQueen), both of Truro, Parker, Victoria, BC, and Molly, Ladner, BC; as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. His ashes will be interred at Forest Hill Cemetery, Broad Cove, at a later date. Charles will be honored with a family celebration, to be held at a later date. No flowers by request. Donations in honor of Charles may be made to the IWK hospital or the United Communities Fire Department.
