Age 77, of Hebbville, NS, formally of West Dublin, NS, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, January 7, 2026. Born on September 21, 1948, in Simpsons Corner, NS, Allan was a son of the late Ernest and Lillian (Hyson) Tufts.
From a young age, Allan developed a strong work ethic, working alongside his brothers in the woods logging. After leaving home, he was employed at Pay Shipyard, in Mahone Bay. In his early twenties, Allan pursued a career as an automotive technician— a profession to which he dedicated more than 50 years. His skill, determination, and passion for mechanics defined his life’s work.
Allan had many passions, including autobody repair and stock car racing, which he enjoyed with his brother-in-law, Michael Joudrey, and daughters, Marge, and Kathy. He loved snowmobiling with his brothers and father, as well as four-wheeling and hunting with family and his best friend, Barry Roy.
Allan was best known for his remarkable ability to fix anything mechanical. He was a hardworking man with a generous and giving heart, offering help freely every single day of his life. Highly respected, both professionally and personally, Allan was an incredible and supportive friend, confidant, and mentor to many throughout the years. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many. His legacy of kindness, dedication, and craftsmanship will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by companion, Lillian Wentzell, Bridgewater; daughters, Marjorie (Joseph) Doucette, Auburndale, Kathy (Kevin) Lajeunesse, Alberta; sons, Steven Tufts, New Ross, Blaine (Michelle) Dorey, Upper New Cornwall; grandchildren, Megan (Kenneth) Thompson, Alberta, Alyssa (Colton) Corkum, Pinegrove, Kyle (Amber) Selig, Blockhouse, Shaylynn Selig, Vogler's Cove, Joshua Doucette, BC, Jacob Doucette, Halifax, Natalie, Nicolas and Nicole Tufts, New Ross, Blaine Jr. (Caelin) Dorey, Greenfield; Brittany, Middle New Cornwall; great-granddaughter, Sophie Dorey; sister, Judith (Michael) Joudrey, Bakers Settlement; half-sister, Sheena (Chris) Cross, England; brother, Alden (Sharon) Tufts, Newcombville; and many nieces and nephews.
Beside his parents, Allan was predeceased by late wife, Ravenna (Langille) Tufts; sisters, Thelma Wile, Daisy Conrad, and Mildred Langille; brothers, Albert, Alfred and Burlin Tufts; half-brother, Stephen Maiden, England; and three siblings in infancy.
Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held Friday, January 16, 2026, beginning at 6 pm – 8 pm, Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 35 York St., Bridgewater. A memorial service for Allan will be held Saturday January 17, 2026, beginning at 1 pm, at Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Burial will take place in Hillside Cemetery, Simpsons Corner, in spring 2026.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Allan may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada, or to Diabetes Canada. Arrangements entrusted to C.F. Sweeny's Funeral Home, 35 York St., Bridgewater.
