VEINOTE

Age 85, formerly of Bridgewater and New Germany, Lunenburg Co., passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 15, 2026, in Mahone Nursing Home, Mahone Bay, where she had been residing.

Born in Falkland Ridge, Annapolis Co., she was a daughter of the late Percy David and Elva Melissa (Stoddart) Starratt.

Ethel spent her working life as a school teacher, with most of her career spent at New Germany Elementary School. She was a member of St. John in the Wilderness Anglican Church, New Germany, where she loved to sing in the choir, which brought her much joy over the years. Ethel married Cecil Veinot in 1968 and they enjoyed traveling, sightseeing, visiting many of their family and friends, square dancing, as well as participating in community life. Ethel loved to paint scenic pictures; had created many many family albums; as well, she enjoyed playing the piano and singing, but she thoroughly enjoyed cooking delicious meals, always looking for a new recipe to try. Ethel especially loved to travel; going on bus tours to Nashville and abroad to Ireland, completing a dream to hear, Anna McGoldrick sing and be involved in one of her tours. She kept herself very busy, always enjoying one of her many past-times.

Ethel was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving by her step daughter-in-law, Kelli Veinot, Bridgewater; step-daughters, Janice (Philip) Wentzell, Berwick; Rosemary (Gerald) Hebb, Bridgewater; step-grandchildren, Sarah (Kirk) Smith, Conquerall Mills; Mary (Kyle) Wyman, Hebbville; Holly (Bob) Abbott, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont., Tyler Wentzell, Fall River; step great-grandchildren, Bella Smith, Ethan Smith, Dylan Smith, Zander Wyman and Ozzy Wyman; and other nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Cecil Veinot; stepson, James "Jim" Veinot; sisters, Olive Kaulback, Enid Brown, Gene Wentzell, Hazel Starratt; brothers, Evan and Lawrence.

Celebration of Ethel's life, will be held 2 p.m., Monday, March 9, 2026 in St. John in the Wilderness Anglican Church, New Germany, with Rev. Catherine Robar officiating. Interment will take place in St. John's Anglican Cemetery, New Germany.
