83, of Lunenburg, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care, Lunenburg.

Born in Bridgewater, she was the daughter of Roseville and Edna (Weiss) Cook.

Janet is survived by her husband of 67 years, Samuel; daughters, Karen (Fenwick) Gilpin, First South; Debra Zwicker (Ken Gilpin), Front Centre; grandchildren, Amy (Lantz) McDormand, Jenna (Matthew) Taylor, Holly Snook, and Nicole (Ueli) Haltner; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Hunter, Nathaniel, Landon, Alaina and Miley; and brother, Gary (Nancy) Cook, Lunenburg.

Throughout the years, Janet worked at National Sea and Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital and did bookkeeping for her husband and his brother’s contracting business. She belonged to the Lunenburg Academy Association, Big Brothers Big Sisters and was a lifelong devoted member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church serving St. Luke’s Ladies Aid and Council. Janet was passionate about volunteering at church events and doing all that she could to help out. She was loved by the community, including the youth who affectionately called her Granny.

Janet loved life and the beauty of the world around her. She enjoyed feeding the birds, reading her Bible, doing puzzles, camping and knitting. Janet enjoyed the family cottage, The Clans Nest, and having her family under one roof. The kitchen table became the prime setting for a game of cards with her family, which usually led to a rematch game and then another. At the end of the day, she could be found relaxing on the deck and listening to the babbling brook. Janet’s charisma and personality drew people together. Janet was the definition of home, familiarity, and comfort. She regularly told her family that she loved them and did not hold back a hug. The sound of her laughter would bring you a smile, often giggling at her own story while trying to share. Janet could happily socialize for hours on end, enjoying every moment spent with family and friends.

She was predeceased by brothers, Jack Cook and Gregory Cook.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy 3, Lunenburg. A service to celebrate Janet’s life was held at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Rhodes Corner on Monday, July 27 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Willis Ott officiating. Private interment in St. Matthew’s Cemetery, Rhodes Corner.
