WEST
Georgia Ann
June 12, 2026

86, of Mahone Bay, died peacefully on Friday, June 12, 2026, at the South Shore Hospice, Lunenburg. Born in Cambridge, ON, she was a daughter of Clifford and Rose (Schill) West.
A traveler, animal lover, and environmentalist, some of Georgia’s many adventures included sailing from California to Maryland, twice touring Europe on a motor scooter, raising a family in an off-grid home in the Gatineau Hills of Quebec, backpacking in the Adirondack Mountains, and traveling from coast to coast by train. An elementary school teacher by profession, Georgia loved children and was loved by her students. Later in life she took great joy in sending books and stuffed animals to her grand-niece and grand-nephews. She spent many Saturday mornings on the couch with her grandson, Barrett, reading and exchanging facts about animals and dinosaurs. Georgia also loved animals. She had many dogs and cats over the years and she enjoyed the neighborhood cats that would come by her apartment daily for a little food and a few pets. She was a consistent donor to many animal welfare and conservation charities, including the Ottawa SPCA, Toronto Humane Society, CPAWS, WWF, IFAW, Greenpeace, Nature Conservancy of Canada, and Hope For Wildlife, to name but a few.
Georgia is survived by son, Damian (Roxanne) Kern, Vaughan, Hants Co.; grandson, Barrett; sisters, Barb West-Jones (Rod), Kitchener, ON and Fran (Glen) Armstrong, Edmonton, AB. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by sister, Lois West. Arrangements are entrusted to the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy 3, Lunenburg.
A simple interment took place on Friday, June 19th at 11:00 a.m. in Harbour View Cemetery, Lower Rose Bay.
Memorial donations may be made to Hope For Wildlife.
