DAYSPRING – Mona Mildred White (nee Conrad), 95, Dayspring, Lunenburg County, NS, died peacefully, Saturday, March 14, 2026 at Shoreham Village, Chester NS.
Born in Bridgewater, NS, she was the former Mona Mildred Conrad, daughter of the late Fred W.A. and Mildred Josephine (Fraser) Conrad. Mona grew up in Dayspring, and throughout her life had a special place in her heart and a deep connection with animals, many of whom became her treasured pets. As a young woman, Mona worked at the Capital store, Coburg Rd, Halifax, and her interest in hair styling led to her providing hairdressing services in her own home in Halifax and later in Cornwallis, NS, when she moved there with her husband, Bob (a navy man), where he worked at HMCS/CFB Cornwallis Naval training base in Deep Brook, Annapolis County. She and Bob lived in their home in Clementsport until the early 1980’s when she returned home to Dayspring to care for her parents until their passing in 1985 and 1991.
While living in Dayspring, Mona became an avid and successful Avon representative, gaining a number of achievement awards. Mona loved promoting their products and enjoying her customers, only retiring from Avon when her health changed. Mona was a long time supporter of the SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) and cared for many dogs and cats, as though they were her children – her beloved Twinkle, Puddles and Suzie, Pebbles and Scamper, Princess, Munch and Tippie, to name a few. She was a generous donor to a variety of charities – SPCA, Breast Cancer, Save the Children, Canadian Cancer Society and others and canvassed for the NS Heart and Stroke. She participated in community life, through the Golden Age Club, The Rebekah’s and Christian Women’s organizations. She played cards at the Dayspring Fire Hall, often with her Uncle Wilson Fraser. She had many friendships in the community.
The family are grateful for Provincial Home Care staff who were so very helpful to Mona in her home, when her health changed. Her final few years were lived at Shoreham Village in Chester, NS, where she was appreciated for her dry wit, was shown love and friendship and came to appreciate the care and companionship she received there.
Mona is survived by her sister Adele (Mrs. John Hughes) and brother Greg Conrad, (wife Carol Shepard Conrad), many nieces, nephews, cousins and community friends. She is predeceased by her husband Robert White, parents Mildred and Fred Conrad, infant brother, sister Sheila (Woodford), and brother Fred Conrad II ‘Sonny’ (Corinne). In addition to the close relationships she had with her brother, Greg, and sister, Adele, Mona had longstanding special relationships with her niece, Karen Corkum, and cousin, Judy Adams – their many visits and shopping outings were treasured times for Mona.
A funeral service and reception will be held at 1pm, Saturday, April 11th, at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church, 13253 Highway 3 (LaHave River Rd.), Upper LaHave, NS, with Rev. Annette Smith officiating. Burial will follow, where she will join her husband and parents, at St. Matthew’s Cemetery, Rhodes Corner/Upper LaHave. Memorial Donations, if wished, may be made to Shoreham Village, Dayspring Fire Hall, Dayspring Golden Age Club, SPCA or a local Animal Shelter, NS Heart and Stroke fund. Family flowers only.
Thank you to Mount Olivet Auxiliary and R.A. Corkum Funeral Home for their care and assistance.
