WITHERALL

Our beautiful mother, Doris Evangeline Witherall, passed away peacefully at Ridgewood Assisted Living in Bridgewater on August 29th, 2026, at the age of 91. 

Mom was born in Lunenburg and was an alumni of the Lunenburg Academy (class of 53). She was the only child of the late Flossie Belle Dauphinee and Charles William Dauphinee. She married Clarence Maxwell Witherall (Max) in 1958. 

Mom worked at MT&T in Halifax and then moved back to Lunenburg where she worked at the Stedman store for many years. Mom was known as the Grandma (Nanny) who baked cookies with love for every special occasion like Christmas, Easter etc. She also made many knitted sweaters for them and loved to sew for them. Mom loved gardening and took pride in keeping up her flower and vegetable gardens until she no longer could. She also volunteered in the gift shop at the Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital. 

Before she moved to Ridgewood she was blessed with kind friends and neighbors who didn’t hesitate to help her out when needed; we wish to thank them wholeheartedly for their kindness in her later years while she still lived in her home. 

The family would also like to thank the staff at Ridgewood Assisted Living for their exceptional care of Mom over the past year.

She is survived by her daughters, Linda and Marilyn (Glen); her grandchildren, Mac (Carol Ann), Kaylah (Adam), Colin, Heidi (Alex) and Matthew; great-grandchildren, Jordan (Andre), Isaac, EJ, Owen and Kallie; step great-grandchildren, Laila and Lenora; brother-in-law, Gordon Witherall; sister-in-law, Mabel Witherall and sister-in-law, Rose Blagdon (Bill). Mom was predeceased by her husband (Max); sisters-in-law, Emily and Beatrice Witherall; brothers-in-law, Maurice and Fred Witherall; son-in-law, Fred Oickle; and a daughter in infancy, Evangeline.

Arrangements are under the care of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy 3, Lunenburg, from where visitation will take place on Friday, September 4 at 1:00 pm followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm, with Pastor Richard Moore officiating. Interment to take place at Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg. Memorial donations may be made to the SHAID Tree Animal Shelter, Faith Baptist Chapel or a charity of your choice.
