WRIGHT

With sadness and a great sense of loss, we announce the sudden passing of a husband, a father, a brother, following complications of heart disease.

Born in Toronto, son of the rectory, his early life was shaped by Muskoka memories on Lake Joseph; school days in Barrie; at Upper Canada College; Ridley College and Leaside High.

Undergraduate life at University of Western Ontario was followed by a teaching stint at St. George's College, before heading to McGill to test his vocation for ministry. A Bachelor of Divinity was followed by Ordination to the Priesthood in The Anglican Church of Canada.

Over 50 years in active ministry, John served parishes in Montreal; UK; as dean of two Cathedrals - Fredericton and Victoria; Chaplain at Sir George Williams University and Trinity College School.

Following retirement, in 2006, he served as Executive Director of The Anglican Foundation in Toronto, and as Rector of Blue Rocks, NS.

Parish life, music and team ministry were hallmarks of John's life.

He has served on the Board of the YMCA in Bridgewater; sung with an a cappella choir; and served as Chaplain to the Order of St. John of Jerusalem. He was awarded a Doctor of Divinity by King's College in Halifax.

John is survived by Mary Elizabeth (Hastie), wife of 52 years; beloved daughter Joanna; brothers, James Mackenzie (Suzanne); Philip de Pencier (Vivian); sisters, Charlotte Elizabeth Carter (Brian); Katherine Louise Wright; sisters-in-law, Janet de Saint Sardos (Jean); Eleanor Wyand (Harland); nieces and nephews.

We are thankful for a skilful and caring health care system and the compassionate hands and hearts that we have known over the years. Doctors Thibedeau, duToit, Bell, ER staff, medical/ surgical staff 3rd floor, and paramedics – thank you! Thank you, Father Alvin for spiritual care.

To those friends and neighbours who have reached out to us in this time of grief, thank you.

Funeral arrangements by Sweeny's Lunenburg.

Memorial Service to be held at All Saints Cathedral, Halifax, June 21, 2024, at 2 p.m.
